When we left our adventurer last they were sailing from Ladsrecht to the port of Rashthra. Unfortunately along the way our heroes were intercepted by some frog men riding some enormous beasts that tried to destroy the rigging and commandeer the ship. Luckily the adventurers sprang into action knocking the would be priates back into the sea, killing one of the plesiosaurs and the other one fleeing. This gave plenty of rations that Antus spent the rest of the journey processing. This turned out to be a very good thing as Rashthra had been without food for a number of weeks and had run out of supplies. After the assistance that our adventurers gave the villagers were more than happy to help on their way to the base camp that was set up by a joint mission by the Order of Works and Order of Scolars.

After a nights rest and resupply our adventurers set out to find Kagarash and the lost expedition. Along the way they were attacked by some strange undead that only slowed them down briefly. Again when they arrived at the now deserted camp they were attacked by the strange blue glowing undead, but eventually overcame them as well. The team had noticed a strange blue pulse coming from the center of city. After some investigation of the camp it appeared that things had not gone well and at some point there had been a split in the expedition, but only one body was found who appeared to have been beaten to death in interrogation.

Pepper Heartsclub had detect magic on him which resulted in him seeing the city in all is splendor with all the dwarves going about their business. After all of this it was decided to rest in one of the abandoned buildings. This resulted in everyone falling asleep and finding themselves in force cages of some description surrounding a strange emaciated creature which appeared to be the source of the pulsing blue light. There was a short conversation with what identified itself as The Harbinger and then all members of the party were knocked unconscious by some mysterious force only to be woken by Marcus. this Marcus did not seem to know who they were but after giving them speaking stone it merged with his and then he seemed to be totally aware of who they were.

All of this was reported back to the capital where Zara Jes ordered Marcus to return to the capital to protect the ailing Emperor. Our heroes were sent to find out where the Harbinger had gone. Heading back toward Rashthra they discovered that the city had once again become active and two portals were open. Antus decided that it was a good idea to go into one and disappeared, after waiting for a few hours for him to return the rest of the party game him up for lost and headed on their way…

Into Blutlafenriege
For Glory!

Player Characters:
Antus Cultellus

Pepper Heartsclub
Kinara

Fern

After many arduous qualifying heats, four teams of heroes finally arrived at the entrance of the Blutlaufenriege. The famous gladiator Asuna Kinsea had managed to surround herself with some very capable individuals including Antus Cultellus, a rouge and chef of some repute, Pepper Heartsclub of the Heartsclub acting clan, Kinara an unnamed dwarf with exceptional hand to hand skills, Ellende a unorthodox member of the Order of Faith and Fern; an uninitiated mage with a quick temper and quick magery skill.

they had elected to go first into the dungeon of epic proportions and with their association with Asuna Kinsea had high rankings to win the “reige” as it was know. Due to the ongoing issues in the east with the heretics of the forest that would not submit to the will of the Emperor this event had been called to bring forth the heroes that would finally destroy them.

The heroes went in and faced many dangers including Goblins, Kobolds and Hobgoblins but in the end were victorious. As they entered what they assumed was the final room they found them surrounded by Imperial guard and a man dressed in well made dark leather armor clapping. He explained that his name was Marcus and that he was the Imperial Shadow; a ghost, demon or cold blooded killer depending on what story people said. He explained that they had won but that they would unfortunately need to appear dead for a time while they carried out the Emperor’s will to investigate disturbances in the desert as Kagarash had been discovered. A secret team had been sent into the desert but had been lost. After this they were released from the death maze and made their way across country to the port city of Ladsrecht a port that supplied much of the western region of Vrige in partcular the dwarven city of Rashthra.

After some adventures with Ogres the party arrived at Ladsrecht where they discovered that all ships had been in port for a number of weeks. Tales from the few survivors that returned were of sea monsters destroying the ships and killing the crew. This left our adventurers in a difficult predicament but after some investigation they discovered one captain who was crazy and drunk enough to take them down the coast to Rashthra which had been the staging for the expedition. So aboard the good ship “Silver Dagger” commanded by Gathrus Agentus our heroes set forth across the ocean…

Base Camp Is Lost!

Date: October 15th

Members Present:

Apologies:
Kevus Sol as he is preparing his men for Blutlafenriege.

Current Business:
All contact with the base camp at Kagarash has been lost. The last transmission was two days ago and no more has been heard since then.

The forest to the East has encroached on the camps having grown back almost completely in a month. Kevus has reported that without constant attention the forest will grow over night into the camp. He has groups of soldiers cutting and burning a 40 foot section in front of the camp on a daily basis. Overnight the forest will grow back though and so this has to be done on a constant basis.

New Business:
In response to these perils the Emperor has decreed an Imperial Blutlaufenriege to champion the war to the East so this can completed. He has also deemed that the city of Kagarash is lost and is to be a forbidden zone until more stability can be found in the East.

Serlina Delvi has been branded a heretic by the state and her sister Alvella Delvi has taken over (once again) as First Guide of the Order of Mysteries. Member of the Office of Annulment (see Order Of Mysteries for more details) have been sent after her but have been unsuccessful as of this time.

Kevus Sol as the Emperor’s hand has called together a team for Blutlafenriege to champion the Emperor. Made almost exclusively of members of the Order of Faith and are considered by most to be the favorites to win.

Kagarash Discovered

Date: September 15th
Members Present:

Apologies:
Serlina Delvi is unavailable for the meeting. She is currently out of the capital doing research in regards to the current findings at Kagarash.

Current Business:
The Imperial Expedition has finally arrived and setup a base camp. A number of issues have arisen.

  • Firstly the city is very significant and has been very well preserved. More funding has been requested as this is going to be a vast resources to excavate properly.
  • Secondly no magical items or spell casting is possibly within the boundary of the city so the previous idea of setting up the base camp within the exposed area of the city was not possible with the significant amount of magic that is being used.

The war to the east has been put on hold as reported by Kevus Sol. No attacks have been noted and a significant portion of the front line troops have been given leave, bringing up the reserves. Kevus has requested that the Order Of Works puts in temporary accommodation near the local villages due to the influx of soldiers. He has also requested a number of addition justices to be sent (Order Of Law) to keep order at this time as well.

New Business:
Rumors of unrest in Kisiwa have been heard for some time but they have come to light again at the death of Damant Xarix, Head of House Xarix. Events around the death are not so clear but the men that were with him claimed that Hobgoblins attacked them.

Dangers Revealed

Date: Sexender 15th

New Business:
1. The lost city of the dwarves (Kagarash) has been found by Order Of Mystery scouts. Serlni Delvi brought this to the attention of the Violet Laurel even though the Magestorium had advised against it.
2. Kevus Sol had brought the head of a creature to the meeting that had never been seen before and was identified as an Elf by Swerius Jalentus.

The decisions made:
1. That an expedition would be sent to the lost city investigate and catalog it’s lost treasure’s from there it would be decided as to how much information was given to the public so at this stage it would be kept secret.

2. The war to the East (where the elf had been found) would be lessened until it could be decided what to do with this discovery.

A Scholar's Story
Pressure Of History

Swerius looked at his apprentice, a gaunt young boy of 13 struggling with the large tome of Karakus’ Treaties on The Laeceren Empire. He was just a small thing from a small house, was it house Travress or something like that? He had forgotten the moment that he had been told.
“I don’t understand why the Emperor bless-his-name would resort to using blood magic, it just seems wrong…”
The great library of Tarash’Fer echoed with his voice, this cavernous temple of knowledge that had stood for four centuries seemed empty these days. The great Gothic hall of history was silent, a tomb for a thousand generations of history. Statues of leviathan proportions peered down at him, great Counselors of history forever listening, forever watching… Sometimes he felt like they were looking through him like a man observing an ant. For a moment he felt as if the Imperial history itself pressed down on him like a giant weight. As First Counselor it was his duty to uphold and preserve the history of the Empire. Swerius shivered despite the fire crackling in the hearth.
His position, the position that he had held for 10 years, seemed to have dwindled in importance, especially with the continuing growth of the Order Of Mysteries. How did the sciences compare to magic? When one could perform the feats of a hundred men in the snap of a finger what use was there for men of science? Some still believed in the honest work of a man and his allies in the Office of the Violet Laurel made sure that funds were still put into their research, but even he had to question what use it was at times. Still, progress had been made and there was always the threat of blood magic that still stained the Empire with it’s corruption.
He had his own study where he could contemplate and officiate from, but he preferred it here, where he had spent most of his life. He remembered a time before the beginning of the new campaigns to the East when this place had been filled with acolytes, journeymen and apprentices all viying for the the coveted position of Counselor. Now it seemed difficult to fill all the required positions let alone competition for them.
The war to the East had been ongoing for two generations now, “The Great Campaign” as Emperor Cartious had called it. He was now long gone but the mandate of wiping out the heretics of the Eastern Kingdoms still stood in place. Of course now the main campaign was at an end with the Battle of Gorad Hill where both huge armies had met and dashed each other to pieces.
Even that seemed a distant memory now, memories when his life had been filled with hope for the future, when the history of the great Empire was important. He missed the scratching of a thousand pens, the constant reassuring sound of history being recorded. The writing still continued of course in the hall of Divine Will where the Imperial Precedent was updated constantly. Perhaps he would visit it later…
He shook his head, shaking the thoughts of the distant past away, bringing himself back to the here and now.
“It was a different time my young apprentice, also remember these text are written by a dwarf who have a very much different opinion on these matters. It was necessary at the time to vanquish the oncoming horde of the south. It was our lack of faith that hid what the Great Apostate had planned.”, replying almost rote of what he had been told as a child. The Great Apostate, Magaras Thul, a mage of great power who in one fell swoop had changed how magic was viewed forever. “Yes, it was the folly of the mages who lost control and caused the Voiding”..
“Surely there must have been another way?” his apprentice retorted in the sullen way that was so common in youth.
“We have the advantage of looking at thing in hind-sight”, he smiled closing his eyes, “Without the use of Blood Magic the Empire would have fallen and all around you would have have been destroyed, smashed to pieces by the oncoming horde. We live in an age of relative peace where mages are registered and the Order of Mysteries keeps us safe from those that would threaten the Empire with magic.”
“Caeplus told me that he heard that a Blood Mage had been found the other day, he says that the mages are the dogs of the empire sent out to silence all those who would have a different way of life”
His eyes snapped open at such a derogatory statement by his apprentice,
“Nonsense boy! You should not listen to such rumors, you are a Counselor or soon to be one and should know better than to listen such things without evidence.”
“Yes master”, the boy bowed his head a little further looking like he had been properly chastized. Yet could it be true? There had been rumors of more Mage activity within the city and there had been strange goings ons the last few nights. He did not sleep very much these days, one of the advantages of age to put up with the aches and pains of old age. It was also strange that his presence had been requested by the Office of Mysteries at the meeting of Magestorium later that day. They had asked him to prepare in particular information on the ancient dwarven city of Kragarash – a place of legend of a time before the Empire itself. The ancient dwarven city was one of the popular folk tales that was passed around the fires of Galera and Vrige. “The streets were made of gold and all dwarves under the aupices of the all-father” as the dwarves would tell it at least. From all that he could tell that was what it was – just a folk tale, though the Office of Reclamation had had some success in unearthing more of the history of the dwarves no evidence had yet come to light of the actual existence of the city of Kragarash. Ho observed over his spectacles what his errant apprentice was doing.
“Once you have read to the beginning of the Blood Crusade that will be enough for today. Prepare the books I have listed for you and then take a rest, it might be along night and I need you to be fully awake for our meeting. It is a great privilege for us to be called to the Magestorium so be on your best behavior.”
His apprentice made the right noises of agreement as he began to clear the writing that he had done. At least he would get some peace and quiet for a few hours, a chance to prepare himself for this meeting. It was always disconcerting to be brought before some of the most powerful men in the Empire, he just hoped that his apprentice was up to the task.
